Children at Shrewsbury Prepatoria are given lots of opportunities for mark making. We use a variety of exciting resources to provoke interest in writing and drawing. One of our latest purchases was a light-box. These are normally used by graphic designers as they provide a smooth well lit background on which to write or draw.

We use a wonderful array of materials to inspire children to trace over lines. We use children’s names, animal pictures and patterns to inspire them to mark make. Even the youngest children have been interested in the light-box. As children grow in confidence in holding a pen and making lovely patterns and pictures they begin to draw and write freely. Some of our children, as young as two and a half years old, are enjoying making very different marks and pictures.
